Long Way Home, Son Henry's mellower, more introspective second album, is about encountering crossroads in life. This collection of songs reflects Son Henry's ambiguity about picking up stakes and moving his family from Alaska to Scotland. The music is maturing and getting more diverse: "I Can't Decide" walks the thin edge of Blues and Jazz, and "Walking shoes" is funkier than Thanksgiving at the Family Stone's. "Ribbon of Tar" and "Walking Shoes" speak of the lure for the road, and the need to move on when it's time to go, while "Right Hand Road" reminisces about past forks in the road. Right before the family was set to go, Son was rear-ended by a teenager playing with his radio, and "Luke's Black Cloud Blues" tells that story and the toll it took - the album shows the beginning of a more narrative style of songwriting that will mature in later albums.
