From the recording Grace
Well, this one is about that moment when you know you’ve got to move on. You’ve finally got the evidence, and you’ve got to accept the truth and move forward. When I wrote this, I’d been playing with a house band at the blues/soul jam in Rochester, and the band repertoire draws pretty heavy from Clarence Carter and Tyrone Davis - soul blues and R&B singers from the 70’s. I love the feel of those songs. When I got to Budapest and started rehearsing it with T. Rogers, it somehow drifted away from pure soul and acquired a bit more calypso, which was a blast, so we just went with it.
Lyrics
It Ain’t you
Well, I’m Driving by your house
And I can see the light on
There’s one too many cars in your driveway
And you’re not alone
Through the curtains I see
Shadows moving on the walls
Well Thought that you were mine now baby
But I got that so very wrong, so wrong
Chorus:
So I’ll keep moving
On down the street
And find someone
who really loves me
Cause it oh no, no
It sure ain’t you baby
It sure ain’t you baby
When we got together baby
All that I could see
Was a vision of our future, oh lord
A place for you and me
But there’s just something
That didn’t seem right
And now there’s one too many cars
In your driveway tonight
Too many cars in your driveway tonight
Chorus
They say love, oh lord
It’s just a losing game
But I think that’s just a lie
It’s the way you play the game
Yeah Yeah
So I thank you little baby
For making it clear to me
That I can do so much better, oh lord
Next time with someone new
