From the recording Grace
I wrote Three Words in the airport in Frankfort while waiting on my flight to Budapest. Like “Waiting on a Sign”, It captures that anxious anticipation of waiting for someone to verbalize what you're already feeling deeply. It's about that vulnerable stage in a relationship where you're all in, hoping and waiting for the other person to reciprocate. It’s a good “Slow dance with your girl in the dark kitchen after the kids are down” song. Musically, I drew inspiration from my travel playlist, weaving in subtle nods to the soulful melodies of "Tennessee Whiskey" by George Jones, the raw emotion of "I'd Rather Go Blind" by Etta James, and the cool weight of "Gravity" by John Mayer.
Lyrics
Three Words
Girl you know I’ll wait
‘til my waiting’s though
You know I’m just stuck on you
And I know one day
And I hope it’s true
I’ll hear those 3 words from you
And I, I’ve been waiting so long
To see if dreams come true
You know I’m stuck on you
And I know one day
And I hope it’s soon
You’ll say those three words to me
Don’t let me wait, now baby
play me for a fool
Don’t bring me down, baby
keep me hanging on
I’ll keep on waiting
Till my waiting is through
Till I hear those three words from you
I’ll keep on waiting
Waiting on you
Nothing else I know I can do
And I know one day
And I hope its soon
You’ll say those 3 words to me
Don’t bring me down baby
Play me for a fool
Break my heart
Play me for a fool
I’ll keep on waiting
Till my waiting’s through
Nothing else you know I can do
