Better Man

Better man is an homage to the Temptations: It’s a bit of funk wrapped around a guitar lick. I wanted this to be uplifting and empowering, and to encourage folks to accept their flaws and persevere in the face of personal challenges. My buddy Big Mitch used to talk about always working on the building - his way of describing how he tried to be a better version of himself every day. These are my takes on it, in particular: “Fall down 7 times and get up 8”; “Knock me down and I’ll get right back up”; and “just trying to be a better version of me every day”. It’s a life-long project when you’re clearly a fixer-upper…

Lyrics

Better man
Here I am
Always be
Right here with you next to me
Every day
Best I can, well I’m
Trying to be a better man
Knock me down
I’ll stand up straight
Fall down seven times
I’ll get up 8
Every day
Best I can
I’m just trying to be a better man
You know it’s true
What can I say
I’m only trying
To find my way
Judge me by what I do
Not what I say
I try a little harder baby
Every single day
Gonna Get back up
From every fall
Ain’t nothing
Gonna knock me down at all
Every day., oh
Best I can, I’m just
Trying to be a, oh lord, a better man
Trying to be
Trying to be
Trying to be
