End of July Thoughts

New Music!

The Road So Far: Eastern Europe Edition

Hey friends,

Hope this summer’s treating you right! I’ve just returned from a whirlwind tour in Hungary backed on several gigs by the incomparable T. Rogers Band. A massive shout-out to the kind folks who packed the rooms and sang along, even in the July heat in Paks.

A magical solo show at the Evangelical Church in Paks was an intimate, unplugged afternoon where I got to share some songs from The Ballad Hunter album plus some new unrecorded material was really well received.

Want a taste of what went down? Check out this Hungarian concert review—Google translate will tell you, in very awkward English, that we brought the house down…

New Singles Rolling Out

My latest couple of singles, "Whiskey Tears and Second Chances" and “Houston and Falling,” dropped on July 15 and 22 and y’all -thank you for the love. Whiskey Tears is a country blues ballad for the broken-hearted, co-written with my friend Mark, an Austin cop who’s seen his fair share of hard nights. Read the feature on RollingHype if you want the backstory - it’s a good one.  “Houston and Falling” is a faster, grittier track about loving the wrong person with all the wrong timing.  I’ve got four more singles on the way between now and September. My latest music seems to be morphing away from Blues/Americana into a more Folk/Rock direction (think The Lumineers or the Wood Bros).  Give them a spin and let me know what you think!

➡️ If you’re into Spotify, Amazon, or Apple Music, you can help a ton by streaming, liking, sharing, or adding the songs to your own playlists. Gotta feed that algorithm! Or grab the tracks directly at www.sonhenry.com. Your support means the world (and future recordings!).

Introducing: The Front Porch Project

In other exciting news—I’ve teamed up with the incredibly talented Elaine Verstraete on upright bass and harmony vocals to form The Front Porch Project. It’s a stripped-down, harmony-rich Folk duo that leans into the kind of storytelling I love. We’ve been hitting the road together this summer with some magical shows across upstate NY.  I've included a live version of us doing “Where I'm Bound” from the Ballad Hunter CD - exclusive to you folks on the mailing list!  Catch us live if you can - We’d love to see your smiling faces in the crowd.   I'm hoping to get another album - all new songs! - out with Elaine in the fall of this year.  Check out sonhenry.com for upcoming dates.

New on YouTube

A couple live performance videos just went up on my YouTube Channel—including one from the Budapest shows with more on the way soon.  I've also uploaded a few live videos of The Front Porch Project onto YouTube here, so feel free to subscribe and give them a spin.

Back to the UK in September

Big news; I’m heading back across the pond this September for a UK tour, playing shows in Scotland and England again with the amazing Mel Ross and Gog Cumming - The Aberdeen-based Son Henry power trio.

We’ve still got a couple open dates—Sept 12 in Scotland and Sept 20 near London—so if you’ve got a venue in mind or want to host a house concert (or even a jam session), hit me up via Facebook, Instagram, or email.

UK friends: if you’re planning to come out to a show, I’d love to hear from you!

That’s it for now. Be good to one another, stay hydrated, and let the music play.

See you out there,
—Son
